pope arrival in UgandaFrom the moment of arrival of the Pope Francis in Uganda soil. The mood has be generally what could only be describe as a pope Frenzy. His holiness was greet by His Excellence the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is currently campaigning for re-election.

Pope Francis visited a memorial site close to Munyonyo. Munyonyo is mostly famous for its 5star presidential Munyonyo resort hotel where the 54 presidents stayed during CHOGM .

The hysterical crowd of faithful ones greeted the Pope at Namugongo Martyrs Shrine. Here Pope Francis met with the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Mwenada Mutebi the second and prayed for the souls of the 22 Ugandan Martyrs mainly Mukajanga. The saints were put to death by the King Kabaka Mwanga II for disobeying Buganda Cultural practices in favor of catholic religion. The first lady and President Museveni gave Pope Francis Sheppard’s stick , while the Pope Present the President with a drawing of the Vatican.

Historically President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is in fact the only Ugandan president to host two Papal visits during his regime as President. He has been also the only president to met two of the influential popes now in 2015 Pope Francis and in 1993 Pope John Paul II. The first pope visit took place after Independence when Pope Paul VI came to Uganda in 1969, starting a trend which has continued to the present Pope Francis.
